New coastal resort will feature Greg Norman-branded real estate and golf course
LOS CABOS, Mexico (May 23, 2017) – Greg Norman Real Estate and Solmar Group have partnered to develop a branded residential enclave and oceanfront golf course in Los Cabos. Norman Estates will be Greg Norman’s first community in Mexico to join his global collection of luxury residences.
One of Cabo’s most anticipated new golf resort communities, Rancho San Lucas is an 834-acre master-planned development taking shape on a dramatic site with 1.2 miles of beachfront on the Pacific Ocean 15 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas.
“Partnering with Solmar Group-a pioneering company in the hospitality industry in Los Cabos with a 30-year track record of delivering impeccable properties-was an easy decision for me when selecting where to bring my brand,” said Norman. “Having traveled all over the globe, I can say with conviction that Norman Estates at Rancho San Lucas is unlike anywhere else in the world and will undoubtedly raise the benchmark for beachfront living in Los Cabos.” Norman Estates is a private, gated community within Rancho San Lucas featuring 32 luxury estate homes and 36 condominiums, all with panoramic views of the Pacific.
Construction has officially begun on Phase I of the estate homes as well as the Norman-designed Rancho San Lucas Golf Course. A grand opening in fall 2018 is anticipated.
“Bringing the world-class style and brand recognition of Greg Norman to Rancho San Lucas in our premier sub-division was the perfect match for what Solmar Group is looking to achieve in this venture,” said Claudia Velo, marketing director for Rancho San Lucas. “We are creating a truly unique development that will focus on offering not only top of the line real estate, but countless opportunities to create lasting memories. The Norman brand will contribute greatly to make this a reality.”
According to Brad Wheatley, director of golf operations, the 7,329-yard, par-72 course is being carved into gently sloping terrain creased by deep arroyos and canyons. “It’s a gorgeous piece of property with beautiful cardon cactus and palo blanco trees,” Wheatley said. Earthmoving, he added, is being kept to minimum.
Known for employing a ‘least-disturbance’ approach in his design projects, Norman has created an intricate routing that features seven holes set in rolling dunes near the sea, with ocean views from 17 holes.
At least two of the par 3’s are expected to created quite a splash in a destination renowned for its signature holes. For example, the par-3 third hole, sculpted into dunes that run down to the sea, plays directly along the beachfront and will give players fine views of breaching whales during the winter months. The par-3 17th hole, patterned after the infamous 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass, plays to an island-style green where both water and sand need to be avoided.
During a recent visit, Norman discussed numerous course enhancements at Rancho San Lucas, including re-vegetation plans to conserve endemic flora and fauna. “We look at integrating indigenous landscapes and grass varietals that use the least amount of water,” he said. “Our goal is to build a sustainable course that is playable from all perspectives, including the forward tees.”
In addition to Norman Estates, Rancho San Lucas will include a village with shopping, dining and entertainment; a community park with a lake, hiking and biking trails, and family picnic areas; as well as a luxury resort, tennis center and other top amenities.
