Golfers can enjoy renovation of Colonial Williamsburg’s premier course July 1
Williamsburg, VA (May 30, 2017) – Colonial Williamsburg’s premier golf course, the newly renovated Gold Course at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, is commemorating the July 1 re-opening of the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design with an all-new Golden Experience Package.
The Golden Experience Package allows golfing guests to be among the first to play the Gold Course upon its return this summer. Rates starting at $179 per person, per night include nightly accommodations at an official Colonial Williamsburg Hotel along with daily greens fee.
Included are a choice of accommodations at the Williamsburg Inn, Williamsburg Lodge, Griffin Hotel, Colonial Houses, or Williamsburg Woodlands and exclusive benefits that come with being a guest at one of Colonial Williamsburg’s unique hotel properties; one round of golf per person, per nightly stay; PING rental clubs, if needed; golf cart; practice balls; a personalized bag tag; and a limited-edition Golden Horseshoe ball marker.
Updates to the historic venue, established in 1963, feature a complete renovation of all greens, fairways, roughs, and bunkers. The renovation was directed by Jones’ son, golf course architect Rees Jones, along with Greg Muirhead of Rees Jones Inc. Golf Course Design.
The Gold Course now has Northbridge Bermuda turf grass on the fairways and surrounding roughs, with 007 Bent on the greens. The bunkers were rebuilt to improve the drainage, look, and playability. Other upgrades include the addition of nine forward tees; complete reconstruction of four greens complexes; and a new short-game practice area that opens out to “target greens” added to the practice range.
Through the years, the Gold Course has been recognized with numerous awards of excellence from players and golf media. It has hosted multiple USGA championships in addition to the 2007 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. It currently ranks No. 79 on the Golf Digest list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses.”
