Washington D.C.’s premier professional golf event introduces brand-new Kids Village and continues to offer free admission to kids 12 and under
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Quicken Loans National, which celebrates family and youth through the Tiger Woods Foundation, is set to provide an enhanced level of engaging youth activities and programming at TPC Potomac June 26-July 2 for the 2017 tournament. For kids of every age, there is sure to be an activity at the Quicken Loans National aimed at creating the perfect summertime memory with family and friends.
The Quicken Loans National is again pleased to offer free admission to kids ages 12 and younger when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Complimentary youth tickets can be picked up at the box office conveniently located at the tournament’s Main Entrance . For youth ages 13-17, grounds tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate at the box office. Discounted Rocket Mortgage MadHouse tickets can also be purchased at the box office for kids ages 12 and younger.
For the first time, the Quicken Loans National will feature Kids Village as the destination for young fans and families to share a memorable experience while taking a break from watching the golf action. Located between The Yard and No. 17 tee at TPC Potomac, Kids Village offers mini golf, interactive games and other activities including face painting, caricature artists and mascot appearances.
The highlighted educational experience within Kids Village is the TGR Learning Lab Youth Activity Zone, which features the following six activity stations themed around the Tiger Woods Foundation’s core STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum and its college access programs. Activities in the TGR Learning Lab include:
• Tinkering Table – Do you know how electricity flows to everyday items like lights, TVs and computers? Through three different circuitry challenges, youth will tinker with a set of supplies while using exploratory and investigative learning to figure out how to create electrical paths.
• Light It Up – Try your hand at lighting up a LED bulb using only a coin battery! In this activity, youth will not only learn about circuitry, but they’ll leave with their very own working, 3D-printed mini flashlight.
• Tower Challenge – Learn about the engineering that goes into making tall buildings stand up and stand out. Using wooden cubes, craft sticks and plastic cups, engineers-in-training are tasked with building a freestanding tower. The tallest tower wins – prizes will be awarded daily at 2 p.m.
• Buoyancy Challenge – Can you keep your boat afloat? Through examining the engineering design process, youth will construct a floating craft out of aluminum foil. The structure that can carry the most pennies before sinking will take the daily prize.
• College Blueprint – With so many colleges to choose from, finding the “right fit” can be a daunting challenge. With our new Campus Culture Quiz, developed in partnership with Discovery Education and available on TGREDUExplore.org, students can use augmented reality software (AR) to explore campus life at U.S. schools.
• Discovering Pi – Through this hands-on activity, youth will figure out how Pi is derived by measuring the circumference and diameter of a number of circular objects. There may or may not be actual pie involved – swing by to find out.
The TGR Learning Lab Youth Activity Zone will be open Wednesday, June 28, from 12-3 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday (June 29-July 2) from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
All youth are invited to attend the Quicken Loans National’s free junior golf clinic on Wednesday, June 28 from 2-3 p.m. on the driving range at TPC Potomac. Here, junior golfers and non-golfers alike, will be led through instruction on the basics of golf by a PGA TOUR professional.
Also, the Quicken Loans National will set up designated, unobstructed viewing zones for kids 12 and younger to watch the tournament from the driving range, the No. 3 green, the No. 17 green and The Yard platform on the 18th fairway.
The Quicken Loans National invites 120 of the top players on the PGA TOUR to compete for their share of a $7.1 million purse. The Quicken Loans National is operated by TGR Live and raises funds and awareness for the Tiger Woods Foundation while paying tribute to our armed forces.
