Salina, Kan. (June 15, 2017) – Legendary Salina Country Club Head Golf Professional Randy Syring has been named the Head Golf Coach at Kansas Wesleyan University. Syring began working at Salina Country Club in 1974 while attending nearby Marymount College. While coaching at Wesleyan, Syring will remain as Salina Country Club’s director of golf on a part-time basis.
“I’m excited for the new challenge,” said Syring. “We’ve worked closely with Wesleyan for years at Salina Country Club in hosting the fall and spring invitationals. I have a great relationship with the team and administration and look forward to getting started.”
Over his 43 year career at Salina Country Club, Syring has done nearly every job at the historic club, including bag room attendant (1974-1980), assistant golf professional (1980-88) and head golf professional (1988-present). Syring played on the Marymount College golf team from 1976 through 1979 and played on professional golf tours in California and Florida during the 1980s.
“Randy is a legend in Kansas,” said Brad McMillan, general manager, Salina Country Club. “He’s a tremendous teacher and an incredible person. I’m sure he’ll be an outstanding head coach for Wesleyan.”
A Class A member of the PGA of America, Syring has served as president of the Midwest Section of the PGA from 1996-1997 and on the Midwest Section’s Board of Directors from 1992-2000. Throughout his career, Syring has received a number of prestigious awards, including 1997 Midwest PGA Teacher of the Year, 2002 Midwest PGA Teacher of the Year, and 2004 Midwest PGA Golf Professional of the year. He has been named by both GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest as one of the top teachers in Kansas.
