St. Albans, MO. – July 11, 2017 – The Country Club of St. Albans, located in St. Albans, MO, is preparing to host the Girls and Boys Junior PGA Championships for the first time in the clubs 25-year history. The Girls Junior PGA Championship will take place July 18-21, with the Boys Junior PGA Championship taking place July 31-Aug. 3 – both championships will be held at the famed Lewis and Clark course at the Country Club of St. Albans and include a field of 144 players, respectively.
The hosting of the Junior PGA Championships reiterates The Country Club of St. Albans and its members’ commitment to youth development in the game of golf.
With a rich history as one of the most prestigious junior championships in the country, The Junior PGA Championships started in 1976 as has been won by some of the biggest names in golf, including Lexi Thompson (2007, 2009), Trevor Immelman (1996) and Sean O’Hair (1998).
“The golf course has stood up wonderfully to some of the top professional and amateur talent in the region,” said Country Club of St. Albans General Manager Morgan Gonzalez. “We look forward to welcoming the best junior golfers in the country to the club.”
The joint Junior PGA Championships caps off a stellar year of championship golf at The Country Club of St. Albans, including hosting the 12th annual Metropolitan Open – the premier championship of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association. The event saw 156 players take part in the three-round championship with New Mexico-native DJ Brigman taking home top honors (Final score -11).
Dating back to the 1904 Olympic Games, St. Louis has enjoyed an esteemed golf history. That history will continue as over the next 14 months as St. Louis clubs will be hosting three PGA Championships. The Country Club of St. Albans hosting of the Boys and Girls Junior PGA Championships and Bellerive Country Club will host the 100th PGA Championship in 2018.
