Stafford, Va. — The Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) Scholarship Committee announced it is awarding $2,500 scholarships to two college students with familial ties to local PGA Professionals through its Bill Deck-Fred Funk MAPGA Family Scholarship initiative.
Sophie Pusateri and Olivia Zachman are the 2017 recipients of the Bill Deck-Fred Funk MAPGA Family Scholarship for their strong academic success and extracurricular endeavors.
The scholarship is awarded annually to graduating high school and current college students who are also children, grandchildren, stepchildren or adopted children of living or deceased MAPGA members.
Sophie Pusateri is currently pursuing a degree in Nursing from James Madison University, which she hopes will lead to a career as a pediatric nurse practitioner. She has maintained a high GPA throughout high school, dual-enrollment classes and her freshman year at JMU. Pusateri was twice named to the Dean’s List at Carroll Community College and entered JMU with 13 college credits.
Pusateri is the granddaughter of MAPGA Professional and Life Member Hank Majewski.
Currently a student at St. Lawrence University in northern New York, Olivia Zachman is majoring in History with a focus on Middle-East relations and is pursuing a minor in Arabic linguistics. As a high school golfer, Zachman maintained a high GPA and was the team’s captain her junior and senior season. Zachman was named the winner of the 2015 National PGA Scholarship following high school and then continued to play golf for St. Lawrence. She is currently a member of an all-girls singing group on campus that spends its time performing at local charitable events.
Zachman is the daughter of Jeffrey Zachman, the Head PGA Professional at Piney Branch CC in Upperco, MD.
The Middle Atlantic PGA Foundation would like to congratulate both Pusateri and Zachman on their academic achievements. The MAPGA is dedicated to improving lives in the golf industry through youth, military and community engagement and the Bill Deck-Fred Funk MAPGA Family Scholarship is just one of many annual MAPGA Foundation initiatives.
