Summer is a busy time for Bishops Gate Golf Academy (BGGA) students and alumni. It’s their time to focus on playing in summer tournaments and improving their game in competition. The summer is full of big-time events and BGGA students and alumni have been making headlines.

Julian Perico, of Peru, added another top-notch win to his resume when he recently won the IMG Academy Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines South in San Diego, Calif. The BGGA Player of the Year shot 8 under par after a birdie on 18 put him one shot ahead of the field.

“It’s unreal,” said Perico in an interview with amateurgolf.com. “I’m joining names like Tiger Woods and Jason Day. I know the course pretty well. I love this place. I feel like it’s a course for me.”

Perico will return to BGGA in the fall to complete his senior year.

Four other BGGA students found success qualifying for USGA events. Thomas Pfoestl and Teddy Tetak qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur taking place this week at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kansas. Both players have BGGA coaches on their bag providing guidance.

Pfoestl shot 5-under 67 in his qualifier and Tetak took medalist honors in his qualifier also with a 5-under 67.

Annie Kim and Anna Chen have qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur and Chen also qualified for the U.S. Girl’s Junior. Chen shot 70 to qualify for the Women’s Am and 69 to qualify for the Girls’ Junior. The U.S. Women’s Amateur will have more BGGA influence as BGGA alum Karen Miyamoto also qualified.

Kristine Yin won the HJGT Lake Nona Junior Challenge
