The South Florida PGA is pleased to announce the recipient of the Don E. Beattie Scholarship, Brett Smythe of Boca Raton. This scholarship of $2,500 is annually awarded to one Palm Beach County resident meeting all eligibility requirements.
The Don E. Beattie Scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of PGA Professional Don E. Beattie for his service to the South Florida PGA Section as a Past President and for his support of the game of golf. Don E. Beattie was a selfless, giving, unassuming individual dedicated to community outreach efforts and countless charities throughout Palm Beach County.
Brett graduated from Spanish River Community High School with a 3.6 GPA. Brett was active outside of his studies as an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America for 12 years. He also was a part of the Youth Group at Grace Community Church and participated in Cross Country and Track throughout high school. Brett is the son of PGA Professional Kenneth Smythe, Head Professional at Osprey Point Golf Course.
PGA Professional, Stephen Haggerty says “selflessness is one of Brett’s strongest attributes which will certainly lend to future success.”
Brett will attend Mars Hill University in Asheville, North Carolina studying Criminal Justice in the fall. We wish him luck with his studies this fall!
