CARLSBAD, Calif. (July 19, 2017) – The winner of the 2015 U.S. Amateur and NCAA Championships recorded his first professional victory Sunday (July 16), at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois using Nippon Shafts.
The 23-year-old graduate of Southern Methodist University used the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130X-flex steel shafts in his irons and wedges to shoot 18-under par with rounds of 66-65-70-65 at TPC Deere Run. All of his irons from 4 through Pitching Wedge were 37.5 inches, the length of his 6-iron. He hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation in Sunday’s final round.
The victory was worth just over $1 million and with it he earned the final spot in the British Open, where 29 of the contestants will be using Nippon Shafts in their irons, including the defending champion.
Meanwhile, the winner of this year’s U.S. Women’s Open used N.S. PRO 950-GH shafts in her irons and wedges to shoot 11-under par at Trump National in Bedminster, New Jersey. It was the first LPGA Tour victory for the 23-year-old South Korean rookie, who had seven victories last year on the Korea Ladies Golf Association Tour shot 73-70-67-67-277. She earned $900,000 for the win.
