VedbÆk, Denmark, August 10th, 2017 – For the first time in golf, all eighteen holes of a major golf tournament are equipped with TrackMan technology for national broadcasting.
Held for the first time at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC, the 2017 PGA Championship and its television network partners have decided to track shots on all eighteen holes using TrackMan’s renowned radar solutions. On ten of the holes, ball flight trajectories along with key ball data parameters are showcased. On another eight holes, the ball flight trajectory is showcased using a so-called side slab 3D animation.
TrackMan’s CEO, Klaus Eldrup-Jorgensen, sees these kind of tracking solutions in broadcasting as a natural extension to what is going on in many golf clubs around the world: “Golfers of all levels are getting used to having tracking technology around them when they practice or take lessons, so why shouldn’t they enjoy fully tracked, animated ball flights when they watch the best players in the world compete? TrackMan covers a large majority of the best golf tournaments around the world, but covering all eighteen holes is a first. “Going forward, this could very well become a standard requirement in broadcasted golf tournaments,” concludes Eldrup-Jorgensen.
