JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 11, 2017) – Jackie Burke, Jr., the second oldest living winner of a major championship, member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, and charter member of Team Secret Golf, will be the featured guest on the popular “Feherty” television show on Golf Channel this coming Monday night at 9:00 p.m. EDT. The 94-year-old Burke will be interviewed by one of golf’s most beloved and funniest personalities, former European Tour player-turned-broadcaster, David Feherty, of Northern Ireland.
Among Burke’s 16 career wins on the PGA Tour were both the 1956 Masters and PGA Championship. In his Masters victory, Burke came from eight strokes behind in the final round, with a one-under 71 to overtake Ken Venturi, then an amateur, who shot 80 on Sunday that year. Later that same season at the PGA Championship, Burke defeated Ted Kroll, 3 & 2, in the final when the format was match play. Burke won the Vardon Trophy for lowest scoring average in 1952 and was elected PGA Player of the Year in 1956.
Burke partnered with the late Jimmy Demaret, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, to found Champions Golf Club in Houston in 1957. The 36-hole facility hosted a PGA Tour event from 1966 to 1971 as well as the 1967 Ryder Cup, the 1969 U.S. Open, and the 1993 U.S. Amateur. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2000.
“I think David Feherty said he’d been waiting 10 years to interview Mr. Burke, so this interview on Monday should be special,” said 10-time PGA Tour winner and major champion Steve Elkington, whom Burke took under his wing while he was a collegiate player at the University of Houston. “For people to be able to listen to Jackie Burke talk about golf and be able to pick up on his passion is always a good thing. I’m looking forward to it. Mr. Burke is part of our Secret Golf team and if people like Mr. Burke, they can go to SecretGolf.com and watch 500 videos of him.”
Along with Burke and Elkington, Team Secret Golf features 15 other professionals, including former major champions Jason Dufner, Brittany Lang and Stacy Lewis. Team Secret Golf now has claimed 111 events collectively on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Web.com Tour.
