CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (Aug. 13, 2017) OMEGA, Official Patron of the PGA of America, has concluded its week-long hosting program and on-site activation at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Justin Thomas won the PGA Championship by two strokes with an overall score of 73-66-69-68 = 276 (-8) for his first Major Championship victory.
To kick off Championship week, OMEGA ambassadors Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy dressed as astronauts in celebration of the OMEGA Speedmaster 60th Anniversary. McIlroy and Garcia hit golf balls on the range and short-game practice area wearing the space suits. On Tuesday night, OMEGA hosted a media reception to thank the media for their hard work in advance of covering the 99th PGA Championship. On Wednesday, OMEGA hosted the first-ever OMEGA Golf Trophy Finals at Carmel Country Club where 30 guests from around the country enjoyed a competition featuring OMEGA ambassador Michael Phelps. At the OMEGA Golf Trophy awards dinner, Phelps and Garcia surprised guests with their appearance and helped present the prizes.
On-site at the PGA Championship, OMEGA provided guests with several interactive photo opportunities including the digital selfie wall in The Championship Shops featuring life-size images of McIlroy and Garcia, and a roaming lunar rover where fans could sit in the decorated cart and take selfies while being encouraged to use the brand’s #Moonwatch hashtag. The OMEGA shop-in-shop inside The Championship Shops provided fans with a chance to try on and purchase OMEGA products. On the 10th fairway, fans had the opportunity to win prizes at the OMEGA Box Challenge. Fans chipped golf balls toward an OMEGA watch box in an effort to make it and were awarded different prizes depending on if they made or hit the box.
President and CEO of OMEGA, Raynald Aeschlimann commented, “It’s always such a great privilege to be an Official Patron at this prestigious Major. This year, we’ve experienced the wonderful hospitality and atmosphere of Charlotte and seen a display of golfing talent that is clearly of the highest standard. It has been truly memorable. OMEGA congratulates all the players and looks forward to seeing them again next year for the 100th PGA Championship!”
The 2017 PGA Championship, held Aug. 7-13, marked the 99th edition of one of the most anticipated golf events on the calendar. OMEGA served as Official Patron of The PGA of America for the seventh-straight year.
