(LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic) – Casa de Campo Resort & Villas – home to the Caribbean’s premier, luxury golf experiences, including the iconic Teeth of the Dog course – announces its senior golf sales director, Gilles Gagnon, has additionally been named “director of golf emeritus.”
A native of Montreal, Gagnon came to Casa de Campo in 1980 when he was hired as golf operations director. He has been instrumental in the development of Casa de Campo’s exceptional golf assets. He oversees the resort’s entire golf operation, including all 90 holes – Teeth of the Dog, The Links, Dye Fore, and La Romana Country Club (private) – as well as the golf shops and full roster of annual tournaments.
Casa de Campo features three exceptional layouts designed by legendary architect and World Golf Hall of Fame member, Pete Dye. Teeth of the Dog, ranked No. 39 in the world by GOLF Magazine and considered one of Dye’s most important designs, is the headliner. Dye’s design genius is also on full display at the resort’s other 45 holes open to the public – Dye Fore (27) and The Links (18).
Often called “the face of Caribbean golf,” Gagnon was honored for his myriad contributions to growing golf in the Dominican Republic as well as the entire Caribbean at the just-completed Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship held at Casa de Campo, July 30 – Aug. 5. This was the 61st edition of the championship with nine Caribbean nations and 80 players vying for the coveted Hoerman Cup. The Dominican Republic won the title for the third year in a row.
“Except for Pete Dye, no other person has had a greater impact on our resort becoming one of the premier golf destinations in the world than Gilles,” says Andres Pichardo Rosenberg, President of Casa de Campo. “His long commitment to growing golf in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean insures his legacy as one of the true icons in the game.”
