ORLANDO, Fla. (August 31, 2017) – Golf Channel Academy (GCA) announced today the Dustin Johnson Golf School – named after the current World No. 1 golfer – as its first Myrtle Beach, S.C., location.
GCA is a dedicated network of teaching facilities and world-class coaches operating with the active support of Golf Channel. The Dustin Johnson Golf School, located at the renowned TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, opened in 2013 as a joint entity between former Coastal Carolina men’s golf coach Allen Terrell and Johnson. Johnson was recruited to Coastal Carolina and played for Terrell from 2004-‘2007. The long-hitting Johnson recently won The Northern Trust, the first event in the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs, after outdueling Jordan Spieth in a playoff.
Terrell previously owned and operated Terrell Golf Performance before partnering with Johnson. He was a finalist for NCAA Coach of the Year while with the Chanticleers in the early 2000s, and has worked with more than 300 college golfers, including 20-plus NCAA All-Americans and more than 80 All-Conference recipients. A U.S. Kids Golf Honorable Mention Top 50 Kids Teacher, Terrell left college coaching in 2013 to dedicate more time to coaching Johnson and operating the golf schools. He also serves as president of The Dustin Johnson Foundation and volunteers as tournament chairman for the Dustin Johnson World Junior Championship.
“We’re excited to join the Golf Channel Academy brand and its network of great coaches,” said Terrell, who’s coached more than a dozen PGA TOUR and European Tour players, including Johnson, a 16-time winner on the PGA TOUR. “Myrtle Beach is known as the seaside golf capital of the world, and to be the lone Golf Channel Academy in the area is an incredible distinction. As we look to enhance the amenities to our members, we feel this only adds to the world-class experience students receive with us.”
The Dustin Johnson Golf School provides premium instruction to students ranging from youngsters to adults, and beginners to professionals. It offers expertise in the game’s leading technologies (TrackMan, AimPoint, MySwing 3D), with an outdoor practice facility boasting expansive Bermuda grass practice tees and greens, along with fairway and greenside bunkers. These amenities will soon be complemented by a new indoor complex featuring two practice bays, a fitness studio, player locker rooms and lounge, and more.
