Birmingham, Ala. (September 7, 2017) – Honours Golf, the premier golf management company in the Southeastern United States and subsidiary of Troon, is pleased to announce that Doug Wert, director of golf at Cider Ridge Golf Club in Oxford, Ala., has been named PGA Junior League Regional Manager for the Mid-Atlantic, Tri-State and Western New York sections of the PGA of America.
In his new position Wert, will assist his fellow golf professionals in the promotion and implementation of the PGA Junior League program for the Player Development Department of the PGA of America. The PGA Junior League program is a junior initiative of PGA Reach, the charitable arm the PGA of America. This innovated program was developed to promote golf as a fun and healthy recreational sport to juniors as well as teach good sportsmanship and integrity. The PGA Junior League works with an array of PGA Sections and local youth organizations to offer an alternative, social golf format. This innovative youth program also emphasizes team play in lieu of individual competition and helps transition youth golfers into existing junior golf programs.
“I am extremely honored to be selected by the PGA of America to help introduce more kids to the great game of golf and assist my fellow golf professionals in the promotion and implementation of this innovative program,” said Wert. “I thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at Cider Ridge, working for Honours Golf and my time in the City of Oxford. This new opportunity marries all the things that I’ve learned over the last 25 years with all the things I am passionate about – junior golf, working for my association, and assisting my fellow professionals.”
During his three-year tenure at Cider Ridge, Wert has been instrumental in increasing golf and food and beverage revenues, coaching and mentoring his associates, and developing and executing strategic marketing initiatives to build the Cider Ridge brand. In addition, he launched many innovative and successful youth programs to grow the game including the PGA Junior League, Nike Junior Golf Camps, and the Troon Junior Club.
Prior to Cider Ridge and Honours Golf, Wert served in managerial positions at an array of outstanding golf facilities throughout the country including TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn., Penn State Golf Courses in State College, Penn., and Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz. He also served as PGM Director for the University of Colorado as well as served on the board of directors of the Colorado PGA Section and Education Committees for the Colorado and Philadelphia PGA sections. Wert graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Marketing/Professional Golf Management. He is currently a certified PGA professional and a member of the PGA Adjunct Faculty.
At Honours Golf, Wert reported to fellow PGA Member and Honours Golf Regional Operations Manager, Evan Godfrey, who added, “Doug’s industry experience, his passion for the game, and enthusiasm for junior golf makes him the perfect fit for the PGA Junior League. We will miss having Doug as our director of golf at Cider Ridge. We look forward to having him assist our fellow golf professionals in the Mid-Atlantic, Tri-State and Western New York sections and we wish him the very best in his new role.”
Wert will periodically travel to each section and have offices in the Tri-state area and Oxford. He and his family will continue to reside in Oxford.
