BELLINGHAM, Wash. – SteelFiber shafts, designed and manufactured by Aerotech Golf, delivered the victory at this weekend’s Japan Airlines Championship on the Champions Tour, the first PGA TOUR Champions event in Japan.
Playing SteelFiber i95 graphite shafts in his irons, the acclaimed Scottish pro and PGA Hall-of-Famer with a record eight European Tour Order of Merit titles to his credit finished strong with his SteelFiber shafts, shooting 31 on the final back nine to come from behind and grab the victory. The win was his fifth on the Champions Tour. In addition to the Champions Tour win, SteelFiber i80 graphite iron shafts scored solo third- and 10th-place finishes at the Indy Women in Tech Championship on the LPGA Tour.
“We congratulate the winner of the Japan Airlines Championship on his strong finish and victory,” says Chris Hilleary, president of Aerotech Golf. “Unlike any other shaft in the game today, the ability to finish strong is a performance benefit incorporated into every SteelFiber shaft. SteelFiber shafts delivery stability and increased distance but, unlike traditional steel shafts, SteelFiber also reduces the risk of injury, lessens aggravation of existing injuries and decreases player fatigue. It’s game-changing technology that allows players to play their best for longer and finish strong.”
SteelFiber shafts provide superior performance through innovative composite engineering that combines a high-modulus graphite core with 59 miles of steel fiber lacing the shaft surface. The shaft’s graphite core provides vibration dampening, increased clubhead speed and maximum distance, while the steel fibers produce optimum weighting for a solid feel at impact and add stability and control for pinpoint accuracy.
Last year, SteelFiber shafts delivered 20 wins on pro tours around the world as well as won the coveted CME Race for the Globe Trophy and 2016 Money Title on the LPGA Tour. Players with SteelFiber shafts routinely rank high on the PGA Money List, Official World Golf Rankings and the FedEx Cup Season Points. In 2013, for example, SteelFiber players ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the FedEx Cup Season Points and ended overall as No. 3 and No. 5 on the PGA Money List. SteelFiber shafts won the highly prized FedEx Cup in 2012.
