Dufner, Harman, Perez qualify for Tour Championship
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 20, 2017) – Three members of Team Secret Golf had outstanding seasons on the PGA Tour in 2016-17 and as a result, find themselves among the top 30 players on the FedEx Cup points list, qualifying them to play this week in The Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. Jason Dufner, Brian Harman and Pat Perez all won PGA Tour events this past year and earned their place in the limited field event that concludes the official season.
Dufner secured the 30th and final spot in the Tour Championship field by the slimmest of margins, barely edging out former Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen by less than a point for the last spot in the field. Dufner was among the top 10 just twice all year but recorded his fifth career win on the PGA Tour at The Memorial in early June. This will mark Dufner’s sixth appearance in the Tour Championship and his previous-best finish in the event was a T8 last year.
Harman easily earned a spot among the top-30 players in the Tour Championship field after recording seven top-10 performances this year that included a victory at the Wells Fargo Championship and a T2 in the U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills. This will be Harman’s first trip to East Lake for the Tour Championship and he’s trying to become just the fifth player in tournament history to win in his initial appearance.
Perez used strong form early in the season to lock up a spot in the Tour Championship. He was among the top 10 in four of his first six starts this year which included a victory at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in Mexico and a T3 at the SBS Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. Later in the year, Perez finished T2 at the Wells Fargo Championship. Perez is also making his first start in the Tour Championship this week.
“I think it’s great that three of our guys have earned their way into the Tour Championship field and that speaks to the quality of players we have on our Secret Golf Team. I wish them all luck as they try to capture the FedEx Cup,” said 10-time PGA Tour winner and major champion Steve Elkington, the co-founder of Secret Golf.
Along with Elkington, Team Secret Golf features 16 other professionals, including former major champions Jackie Burke, Jr., Dufner, Brittany Lang and Stacy Lewis. Team Secret Golf has claimed 111 events collectively on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Web.com Tour.
