Hawk’s Landing Golf Club located at the Orlando World Center Marriott has reopened after clean up from Hurricane Irma was completed on Thursday, September 14th. The course and resort sustained minimal damage, aside from a number of downed trees, broken branches, bunker wash and standing water. According to Michael Hodgins, PGA Director of Golf, “The course came through with flying colors. We recently replaced our Back 9 greens and practice greens with Diamond Zoysia grass and they weathered the storm great. Once we cleared off the debris, reshaped the bunkers, and the excess water from Irma drained, the course was ready to play and is in fantastic early fall condition.”
Hawk’s Landing is offering special green fee rates of $65 before 12:00 pm and $49 after 12:00 pm through Saturday September 30th to encourage players to come out and experience the golf course before the peak season hits. Hawk’s Landing is also hosting its “End of Summer Golf Classic” on Friday, October 6th. In addition, the Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf at Hawk’s Landing is in full operation. The Academy sustained some damage to its protective cover from the high winds but that has no effect on their instruction programs. The balance of the teaching facility, tee line, putting green, short game area and bunkers are in great shape. “We had enough warning ahead of the hurricane to get all of our technologies and training equipment stored inside the Academy offices so we are 100% back in business,” stated Brian O’Neill, PGA, Director of Instruction at the Nicklaus Academy. “Our students, hotel guests, and Junior Elite Team members are back at the Academy working on their games.”
