Williamsburg, VA (Sept. 27, 2017) – Colonial Williamsburg’s Golden Horseshoe Golf Club will salute and celebrate the armed services at its annual Fall Military Invitational, a 36-hole event on the Green Course, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12.
Popular with both active and retired military members and friends, the tournament’s two-person teams will be composed of amateur golfers as defined by the USGA Rules of Golf. One player must be an active-duty, retired, or reserve military or National Guard member. The other player may be either civilian or military.
The Military Invitational Saturday format will be four-ball, two person, best ball; Sunday’s will be captain’s choice. Player handicaps will be used to determine Saturday’s pairings. The flights will be determined by Saturday’s scores.
To qualify for the senior division, both players must be 50 years of age or older by Nov. 11, 2017, and the Super Senior division players must be 65 years or older by the same date. Entry fee is $250 per team. Top teams in each flight in the regular and the two senior divisions will be awarded gift cards redeemable at either the Green Course or Gold Course pro shops.
Special room rates are available at the Williamsburg Woodlands Hotel & Suites, an official Colonial Williamsburg hotel. Rates start at $109 per room, per night, excluding tax and gratuity. Reservations may be made by calling 1-800-261-9530 and requesting the 2017 Fall Military Invitational participant rate.
The Golden Horseshoe’s three courses include the recently renovated Gold Course. A perennial Golf Digest Top 100, the Gold-originally designed in 1963 by Robert Trent Jones Sr.-re-opened in July following a restoration directed by his son, “The Open Doctor,” golf course architect Rees Jones.
Golden Horseshoe also claims the first side-by-side, father-son-designed layout with the Green Course, which Rees Jones designed in 1991. The Spotswood Course, a classic short course layout also designed by Trent Jones Sr. is perfect for quick rounds, family play or settling bets with your group.
The Green Course, on which the Military Invitational will be played, has hosted several national and state championships including the 2004 Women’s Amateur Public Links, 1999 USGA Women’s State Team Championship, and the 1998 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
All guests at Colonial Williamsburg Hotels also are entitled to discounts at official Colonial Williamsburg exhibits and museums.
