Top junior girls from 18 Latin American and Caribbean countries to compete Oct. 11-14
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The ANNIKA Foundation – golf Hall-of-Famer Annika Sorenstam’s charitable organization – is bringing the ANNIKA Invitational Latin America back to Buenos Aires’s Hurlingham Club.
Created in partnership with The R&A, and co-hosted by the Argentine Golf Association, the 2017 ANNIKA Invitational Latin America will take place Oct. 11-14.
It will feature nearly 50 of the region’s top junior girls representing 18 different countries. They will compete for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, with the winner receiving an exemption into the 2018 South American Amateur Championship, to be held in Santiago, Chile. The top-three finishers will also receive an exemption into either the 2018 ANNIKA Invitational USA or ANNIKA Invitational Europe
Defending ANNIKA Invitational Latin America champion, Agustina Gomez Cisterna of Argentina, headlines the strong field.
“We’re very excited to bring the ANNIKA Invitational Latin America back to Argentina, a country with a rich golf history” says Annika, who will be onsite for the event. “Our team believes Latin America holds great promise for future growth, and that the event is a perfect platform for us to reach the region’s best junior golfers.”
Annika’s schedule for the week includes a clinic for competitors during which she’ll share her “Winning Approach” philosophy, a gala dinner and an awards presentation.
The 2017 ANNIKA Invitational Latin America is the final event on the ANNIKA Foundation’s global circuit of tournaments. Other invitationals for junior girls are the ANNIKA Invitational USA, ANNIKA Invitational Mission Hills (China) and ANNIKA Invitational Europe.
The Foundation also annually hosts the ANNIKA Cup, a team event for Swedish juniors, and the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M, a women’s college golf tournament co-founded with Golfweek and just completed last week in Minnesota. It also bestows the ANNIKA Award Presented by 3M to the nation’s most outstanding Division I female golfer.
