BONITA, CA (Oct. 10, 2017) – Two amateur golfers who recently won high-profile golf championships attributed much of their success to Knuth Golf’s award-winning family of High Heat metalwoods.
Hong Kong resident Jim Mailer teamed with partner Chris Underwood to win the prestigious Calcutta Cup at the Old Course in St. Andrews, outlasting 176 other teams in the match play competition.
Mailer, a member of the Royal & Ancient, recently added the High Heat 3 and 5 woods to his bag, and said they played a key role in his success at the Calcutta Cup.
“The High Heat fairway woods performed so well,” said Mailer. “They were particularly effective off the tight fescue fairway grass of links golf.” Mailer added that his wife “enjoyed a similar experience” and ordered more High Heat clubs.
In another big amateur event – the Society of Seniors’ national four-ball championship, the Tutweiler Cup, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ – Ronnie Tumlin and Dr. Rob Hess shot 17-under-par 199 to win the super seniors division by a record nine strokes. They beat a field of top super seniors from around the world. Tumlin, 68, has used the High Heat 3-wood for two years.
“I was able to help my partner mostly due to my High Heat 3 metal,” said Tumlin, tournament director of the Florida Senior Azalea Amateur and winner of over 150 amateur events around the country. “I was able to hit the green from roughly 200 yards and hit it high enough to hold the elevated, bunkered and firm greens. I think I hit it at least 15 times in three days to par 4 holes and I was hitting the ball on the greens.”
Tumlin, from St. Augustine, FL, credited the titanium face technology offered in all High Heat fairway woods and hybrids. High Heat is the only brand that offers titanium faces in its fairway woods and hybrids. This not only provides additional distance on center hits but it enables golfers to perform much better on off-center hits, leading to more greens in regulation and lower scores. Major brands only offer steel faces in their fairway woods and hybrids, which have less spring-like trampoline effect on off-center hits, often the main reason shots fall short of the green.
“I was once a lousy 3 wood player. I have spent thousands on 3 woods,” said Tumlin. “My High Heat with a pro 53 shaft is still in the lineup and still hitting the ball high and straight. My friends are amazed I have gone from lousy to pretty good with a long fairway metal.”
The High Heat technology was born from designer Dean Knuth’s love of amateur golf. He spent 16 years as Senior Director at the USGA, where he invented the Course Rating and Slope Systems. After retiring from the USGA he set out on his goal of creating golf clubs designed to enhance the performance of amateur golfers. Several years later, High Heat was born.
At KnuthGolf.com, an online fitting is conducted to properly address the loft for the driver and which weight and flex is needed for the club shaft for any High Heat fairway wood or hybrid they purchase. Further, Knuth Golf is so sure that its High Heat clubs will significantly improve an amateur’s performance that it provides a 30-day full refund guarantee.

ABOUT KNUTH GOLF
Dean Knuth, a former USGA Senior Director, designed High Heat metalwoods specifically with amateurs in mind. Amateur golfers need clubs that use nearly 50 grams of discretionary weight to optimize their much different performance needs compared to Tour pros with 115+ mph swing speeds who consistently hit on or very near the center of the face. Knuth was awarded Golf Inc. magazine’s “Top Innovator” award for golf clubs in 2016.
Knuth Golf’s High Heat driver, fairway woods and hybrids have been named the “Best” in their class by several major golf media. The High Heat driver won the International Network of Golf, a 450-media based non-profit, “Conference Best Product” in 2016 and the fairway woods and hybrids were co-winners of that award this past May. Also, the High Heat driver and 3-wood have won the ING Industry Honors award for Product Ingenuity two years running.
