Loxley, Ala. (October 24, 2017) – The 2017 Steelwood Collegiate Golf Tournament will be played October 26th through 29th at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala. The Steelwood Collegiate Tournament was started in the fall of 2016 with the goal of helping local and regional charities while showcasing “Tomorrow’s PGA Tour Stars” at a premier college golf event.
Steelwood Country Club is nestled within a 1,500 acre, secluded and gated community just north of Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The Club features a beautifully conditioned 18-hole golf course designed by former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate. Stretching more than 7,100 yards, this award-winning championship golf course meanders through rolling hills, dense hardwood forests and natural wetlands. More than one third of the course offers panoramic views of Steelwood Lake including the 18th hole which is as scenic as it is strategic.
Since its inception in 1997, Steelwood has garnered numerous awards including best in state by Golf Digest, and hosts numerous tournaments including the top tournament for the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). The golf facility also has an expansive driving range and state-of-the-art teaching facility.
In 2016, the Steelwood Collegiate Tournament AM-AM raised $25,000 for local charities and a scholarship fund. The 2016 highlighted charity was Pilots for Christ – an organization that provides private air travel to hospitals around the country, offering transportation to critically ill patients at no charge.
