“Husk+Vine” showcases Maryland’s agricultural and culinary heritage
LAYTONSVILLE, Md. (Nov. 1, 2017) – Montgomery Country Club, located just north of the metro Washington, D.C. market, has opened a new member restaurant that builds on the history and tradition of the region.
Branded Husk+Vine for its innovative pairing of local produce with select wines from across America, the restaurant is part of a renovation of the existing clubhouse and its outdoor spaces undertaken by Arcis Golf, which assumed ownership of the club in October 2014.
“We have captured the best of this area, from farming to fresh produce, and from cracklin’ bread to crab cakes,” said Kieron Mooney, general manager of Montgomery Country Club. “We’ve incorporated a bit of traditional, rustic flavor to our culinary creations, but with a multi-dimensional edge that ranges from seasonal dishes to tried-and-true comfort food. Husk+Vine provides a family atmosphere that appeals to our members and their guests.”
Montgomery County’s famed corn- and pork-based cracklin’ bread – Laytonsville was once named “Cracklintown” – is only one of several items on the regionally-inspired menu. Along with the Cracklin’ Bread Chicken Sandwich, creations include a Deviled Crab appetizer, Husk+Vine Salad (roasted corn, black beans, white cheddar, vine-ripened tomatoes), Husk-Wrapped Snapper, classic Maryland Mac & Cheese, and of course, crab cakes made from fresh, Maryland crab.
The reimagined restaurant-part of Arcis Golf’s $1.5 million investment in Montgomery Country Club since assuming ownership -combines a speakeasy-style bar and grill, leading to the adjacent patio and an inviting casual, comfortable family atmosphere. A new Community Table-which opens onto the restaurant on one side and to the bar on the other-has already proven a member favorite. The overall dining area was modernized, the outdoor patios and living spaces have been updated, and the private-event venues redesigned to showcase expansive views of the club’s golf course.
Each detail of the transformation highlights the club’s long-standing traditions and connections to the local community, while exceeding the needs and expectations of its members. The new design reflects the history of surrounding Montgomery County with dark wood and deep colors that reflect the character of the early 1900s. Replica works of art, based on research conducted in the club and county historical archives, are on display throughout the clubhouse, along with a map of Montgomery County, circa 1850.
“We set out to change the mindset of the usual golf club dining experience by focusing on fresh indigenous flavors, transcendent ideas, and an unparalleled service and member experience,” said David Giarmona, Vice President of Food and Beverage for Arcis Golf. “Our members and their family and guests have a distinctive and inviting space regardless if they choose the beautiful patio or the new dining and bar area.”
A private non-equity club, Montgomery Country Club sits amid the rolling hills of Laytonsville on a former farm site on what remains rich agricultural farmland. The fertile landscape enhances the club’s fine course conditioning and when combined with the dramatic layout compares favorably to the finest clubs in the area. Other club amenities include a large swimming pool (home to an award-winning swim team), along with generous entertainment and event spaces.
