Texan becomes 18th tour professional with his own player channel
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (October 31, 2017) – Chris Stroud, who won his first professional event on the PGA Tour at the 2017 Barracuda Championship, is now a member of the Secret Golf team and will soon have his own Player Channel on secretgolf.com, providing his insight into the game and allowing fans to have a direct connection.
The 35-year-old Stroud, a native of Groves, Texas, played college golf at Lamar University and was a two-time All-American. As an amateur, Stroud won the 2003 North and South Amateur and played on the 2004 Palmer Cup team. He becomes the 18th Tour professional to join Secret Golf.
“I’m very excited about being a part of Team Secret Golf. I learned quite a bit from the Hurricane Harvey experience and have a new appreciation for fans of the PGA Tour. Secret Golf will give me a great platform to interact with those fans and tell them what I know and what I’ve learned in my career about professional golf,” Stroud said.
Stroud turned professional in 2004 and initially earned his PGA Tour card at the 2006 Qualifying Tournament. In August, Stroud defeated both Greg Owen and Richy Werenski in a playoff at the Barracuda Championship, the only Tour event currently using a Stableford scoring format. At the 2017 PGA Championship, Stroud contended for three rounds before eventually finishing T9 at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.
After Hurricane Harvey forced nearly two dozen people to take refuge in Stroud’s home in suburban Houston, he pledged $10,000 and 10 percent of his winnings at the Dell Technologies Championship to the relief effort. Stroud continues to be inspired to help people affected by the severe hurricane and will team with fellow professional Bobby Gates and 18 other golf professionals from the area to support the Hurricane Harvey Relief Pro-Am on December 11-12 at Bluejack National Golf Club in Montgomery, Texas.
Stroud now joins Steve Elkington, the co-founder of Secret Golf, who won the 1995 PGA Championship, two Players Championships and seven other PGA Tour events, World Golf Hall of Fame member Jackie Burke, two-time LPGA Tour Player of the Year Stacy Lewis, and PGA Champion Jason Dufner on the team. Other members of Team Secret Golf include Tour professionals Jason Gore, Brian Harman, Patton Kizzere, Colt Knost, Jason Kokrak, Ryan Palmer, Pat Perez, Martin Piller and Ethan Tracy. Team Secret Golf’s LPGA staff features, in addition to Lewis, Brittany Lang, Gaby Lopez and Gerina Piller. Former Tour player turned instructor Bradley Hughes of Australia rounds out the professional staff.
“I’m so glad to have Chris Stroud as part of our team. He has watched our video content for years and got his first Tour win last year. Chris is a tremendous guy with a great story to tell and will be a great addition for us,” Elkington said.
