For the second consecutive week, the Ladies European Tour will be playing their event at a Gary Player Design course.
The first week in November saw the LET host the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club. The Gary Player Signature course in the UAE is considered one of the best in the entire Middle East, and has received numerous accolades since opening in 2011 including the Middle East’s Best Course at the annual World Golf Awards.
“We take pride in creating layouts that are playable for amateurs but also capable host venues for professional events,” said Grand Slam Champion and course designer Gary Player. “It’s the best way to showcase our global portfolio to the world, and no doubt will continue to attract golf enthusiasts around the globe to go play golf in the United Arab Emirates.
“The Abu Dhabi Sport Council is a terrific organization that has put emphasis on golf in a country that is relatively new to the sport. Our Gary Player Invitational also will be at staged at Saadiyat Beach next January.”
Pristine conditions saw the ladies shoot low with the winner, Aditi Ashok, finishing at 18-under par. With rounds of 67, 66, 68 and 69, the second-year professional golfer finished one stroke ahead of Englishwoman Georgia Hall, and took home a first prize check for Ì¢?åÂ70,788.
Hall finished as the runner up for the second year in a row, and her final round of 66 was the best score of the day.
“I think the course was amazing,” exclaimed Hall. “The last hole is such a great finish, it’s defiantly not an easy one. I think the last five holes are hard closing holes and that’s what you need going down the stretch. The bunkers off the tee are in great positions so you really have to place the ball. The greens are massive and they have loads of different options to put the pin. Defiantly one of the best courses I have ever played, and can’t wait to go back next year!”
The Hero Women’s Indian Open takes place November 8-11 at DLF Golf and Country Club, another Gary Player designed course in India.
The newly crowned Fatima Bint Mubarak champion, Aditi Ashok, will look to defend her Hero Women’s Indian Open title, where she won her first professional event as a rookie in 2016.
“DLF Golf & Country Club has proven to be a formable test of golf during tournament venues,” said Vice President and Senior Designer Jeff Lawrence. “I am confident the DLF team will have the course in impeccable shape and the course set-up to be fair, yet challenging. It should be another great event for the Ladies European Tour.”
DLF Golf and Country Club also plays host to the European Tour’s Hero Indian Open. The annual event is scheduled again for March of 2018.
This week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge is being played at the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City in South Africa and is sanctioned by the European Tour as part of the Rolex Series.
