The 2017 Blue Bay LPGA in China was an exciting event for Coach Gary Gilchrist as two of his players Shanshan Feng and Mo Jutanagarn battled it out to the last hole, but it would be Feng to finish on top with the back to back victories that propelled her to the ranking to #1 in the world.
Shanshan Feng has been working with Coach Gilchrist since 2006, when she took took the opportunity he offered to attend the full time academy that he was coaching at in the US. At just 17, Gilchrist knew her talent and ability was remarkable. After her year at the academy, she shared with Gilchrist she wanted to turn pro. Gilchrist supported her dream and even caddied for her at 2nd stage of tour school. In 2008 she qualified for the LPGA tour on her first attempt, She has been a constant Top 10 player for many years with winnings nearly $10 million to date including over 78 top 10 finishes in her career, 9 wins including 1 major, and won bronze at the 2016 Olympics.
“Shanshan sacrificed a lot. She left home at a young age, left her parents and her world behind in China all to pursue her dreams.” says Gilchrist, “It wasn’t easy, but every single year she gained more and more experience and learned to trust in her own game.”
