Nov. 27, 2017, Glenview, Ill. – Global Golf Post, the world’s leading golf news publication, today announced its men’s and women’s amateurs of the year for 2017, as well as its annual All-Amateur teams for men and women.
Masters low amateur and former U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion Stewart Hagestad was the obvious favorite for men’s amateur of the year while the runaway winner on the women’s side was Ireland’s Leona Maguire, a three-time recipient of the Mark H. McCormack medal.
“We take great pride and equal joy in supporting the global amateur game,” said Global Golf Post founder and publisher Jim Nugent. “This annual effort, indicative of both, is intended to recognize individual performance over the past 12 months for men and women amateurs, mid-amateurs, and senior amateurs.”
The Post’s fifth All-Amateur selections include a total of 195 players from 25 countries recognized for on-course excellence in 2017.
“Amateur golf is a part of the DNA of The Post,” Nugent said. “We consider it a great honor but also a responsibility to cover the amateur game and to draw attention to the ladies and gentlemen who play it.”
