NJ Golf Foundation delivers youth golf player development programs
Bedminster, N.J., November 27, 2017…The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), today announced that the Newark Boys & Girls Club Golf, presented by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ), will expand programming in 2018. The success of the current 2017 fall program in Newark, which has two-sessions remaining (November 28th and December 5th), has prompted the NJGF and longstanding partner Horizon BCBSNJ to allocate more resources for youth golf programming in 2018.
Newark Boys & Girls Club Golf, presented by Horizon BCBSNJ, is an extension of the NJGF’s nationally acclaimed Golf In Schools program, which is an award-winning initiative that introduces golf to children by incorporating the sport into the physical education curriculum at elementary and middle schools. The program currently impacts more than 110,000 boys and girls at more than 200 schools across NJ on an annual basis. In addition to the Newark Boys & Girls Club Golf, presented by Horizon BCBSNJ, golf programming through the NJGF is also available at Boys & Girls Club Chapters in Union, Perth Amboy and Trenton.
Established in 2004, the NJGF was created to positively impact lives and communities through the game of golf, with a focus on 3 core pillars: youth, military and special needs. Under the guidance of PGA Professionals, the programs are created to provide individuals from all backgrounds an opportunity to experience the game of golf in a welcoming environment.
“As the NJGF remains committed to making the game of golf more accessible for boys and girls from all backgrounds, expanding our after school player development programming is essential,” said Chris Hunt, Executive Director, New Jersey Golf Foundation. “Thanks to our partners at Horizon BCBSNJ, and the passionate PGA Professionals that volunteer their time, the growth and success of the Newark Boys & Girls Club Golf program will serve as a launching pad for additional programming in 2018, and beyond.”
Horizon BCBSNJ will continue to work with the NJGF to integrate health and wellness initiatives into the Boys & Girls Club Golf Program, as well as the NJGF’s complete line-up of youth golf programs.
“Horizon BCBSNJ promotes and encourages healthy and active lifestyles for kids,” said Jonathan R. Pearson, Executive Director & Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for Horizon BCBSNJ. “Thanks to the NJGF’s innovative education programs, we are teaching boys and girls about the importance of developing healthy habits through the game of golf. Together, we are positively impacting lives, while introducing kids to a sport that can be played for a lifetime.”
