Tiger Woods four round score on his return to professional golf at the Hero World Challenge would have earned him a starting handicap of 29.3 utilizing the new and innovative Golf Points Index scoring and handicap system.
GolfPointsIndex (GPI) is a golf scoring and handicap system which uses points earned on each hole in relation to par in order to keep score and track a handicap.
Bogeys are 1 point, pars are 3 points, birdies are 5 points, and eagles are 8. Golfers with a GPI handicap under 10 receive 1/2 point for a double bogey. All other scores are counted as a 0.
Woods had 2 eagles, 17 birdies, 41 pars, and 11 bogeys for a total point score of 235 and a 9 hole average score of 29.3
The GPI handicap is the 9 hole total point average over the last 180 holes played.
“We thought it would be fun to see what Tiger would score using our system,” says GPI founder and President Ron Zevy. ” The pros use the Modified Stableford System for one of their events but a point system which awards 0 points for a par and -3 for a double bogey is not very viable for amateur golfers. We wanted to create something which was an encouraging, engaging and, most of all, ̢??fun way to keep score and play golf.”
While primarily created for juniors, seniors, and mid to high level handicaps, GPI is a great way for golfers of all abilities to compete on a level playing field.
The www.golfpointsindex.com and mobile apps are free and allow players to enter their scores and the system will track and calculate their handicap.
One of the many features of the system is that it allows a golfer to play as many or as few holes as they like and still enter a score towards their Index.
