ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 21, 2017) – The Conaway Golf Academy in Sarasota has joined the Golf Channel Academy (GCA) network of teaching facilities, becoming GCA’s first location in the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton (Fla.) metropolitan area.
GCA’s facilities and world-class coaches operate with the active support of Golf Channel. With more than 90 locations canvassing 33 states and one European country, Golf Channel Academy is among the most expansive golf instruction networks in the world today.
The Conaway Golf Academy, named for Owner and Director of Instruction Tim Conaway, opened in 2014 and has since operated as one of the premier instruction facilities on the Florida Gulf Coast. The full-service academy, located at Tatum Ridge Golf Links, has its own two-tiered private lesson area, short-game practice area and two practice putting greens; and features state-of-the-art technology, including the Flightscope 3D Doppler Radar launch monitor/ball tracking system.
“It’s a great honor to be included amongst the elite teaching facilities nationwide that are Golf Channel Academy locations,” said Conaway, a graduate of the Golf Academy of America in Orlando, Fla. “With our location at the best public practice facility in the county, we look forward to providing everyone with an exceptional learning experience so they can play better golf and enjoy the game more than ever.”
Conaway, former assistant golf professional at The Oaks Club in Osprey and golf events coordinator for the Longboat Key Club in Sarasota, has been teaching professionally for more than 15 years. He is a Certified Coach/Instructor with U.S. Kids Golf, AimPoint Express and FlightScope, and his students have won multiple local junior tournaments, club championships and Florida State Golf Association events.
Conaway’s staff also brings more than 45 years teaching experience to the lesson tee, and includes two PGA of America members-Brad Myers and Kip Southland. Myers is the former head professional at The Woodlands Country Club in Texas, where he oversaw a junior program that produced multiple team and individual state champions, and college scholarship recipients. In 2005, he was awarded the Junior Golf Leader Award by the Southern Texas PGA Section. Southland is a seasonal instructor (Dec. 1 through April 3o) with the academy. His students include several Junior College National Championship qualifiers, Michigan All-State High School golfers and a Michigan Amputee State Champion.
The most recent addition to the coaching staff is former World Long Drive Championship competitor Tyler Beasley, who has recorded a long drive of 460 yards in competition. Beasley joins Conaway Golf Academy after spending three years teaching at The Golf Learning Center at The Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
