The United States. Disabled Golf Association (USDGA) is focused on hosting an international tournament which showcases golfers that have various impairments such as amputees, wounded veterans, blind & partially sighted, special Olympians, stroke survivors, cerebral palsy, and many others.
The inaugural United States Disabled Open Golf Championship is scheduled for May 8-10, 2018 at the Eagle Creek Golf Club located at 1050 Emerson Lake Boulevard in Orlando, Florida and open to men and women 16 years and over.
The event will be a 36-hole tournament and include a practice round the day prior. This event is open to players with a golf handicap index not exceeding 30. The event will be flighted into three divisions, and awards will be given in all three categories, Net and Gross.
The USDGA has received support from the Founder of PlaneSWING, Tony Clark; Social Media support from LMRH Media’s Kelly McKay; Greg Norman Collections; PGA Superstore; EZ Links web designs and from Central Florida University, kindly providing volunteers for the event.
The Hyatt Place hotel located at 5435 Forbes Place near Orlando International Airport will offer a special discounted rate as the official hotel for the Championship.
The USDGA will also be attending the PGA Show in January in Orlando Florida.
The Founder Jason Faircloth says that creating this event became a passion and a mission from an unbelievable experience he had playing in the Disabled British Open in 2011 and 2012.
Only recently Jason returned from playing in the Scottish Disabled Open at the Home of Golf, St Andrews. Jason commented “I want to create that same type of experience for golfers here in the USA, where disabled golfers can showcase their abilities”.
As the only disabled American to ever compete in Europe and one of just a few US golfers with disabilities to play in international events, Jason has a good understanding of what disabled golfers expect from an event of this stature.
