LAKE MARY, FL (January 9, 2018) – Timacuan Golf & Country Club will host some of the best junior golfers in the world this coming weekend in the Foley Performance Academy @ EaglesDream Junior Championship.
The American Junior Golf Association will conduct the 54-hole competition for players aged 12 to 18 Saturday through Monday on the highly acclaimed Ron Garl layout. The public is invited to watch the action free of charge. Tee times for the 78-player field will start at 8 a.m. each day.
Foley Performance Academy @ EaglesDream is located at Timacuan, and is headed by world-renowned instructor Sean Foley. Several EaglesDream Academy students are competing in this event, including defending champion Aden Ye, ranked No. 3 nationally in the Golfweek Junior rankings. Ye came within one shot of an AJGA scoring record last year, recording rounds of 63-66-69 for an 11-shot victory.
Other top-ranked boys in the field at Timacuan include Jimmy Lee of Mission, TX and Teddy Tetak of the Slovak Republic.
The girls field features one EaglesDream student, Mimi Chen, who was selected to the Orlando Sentinel All-Region team as a member of the state-runner-up Lake Mary Prep School squad. Other top-ranked players in the field are Anne Yu of Orlando, Gracy Ni from Cypress, TX, SiQin Yu of Bradenton, FL and Ashley Gilliam of Manchester, TN.
Timacuan has been among the most popular courses in Central Florida since opening in 1988. It has been ranked as high as No. 14 in Florida, and has hosted dozens of national and international competitions. U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell is among its fans.
“I really enjoyed the golf course,” said McDowell, after playing in the $10,000 Timacuan Scramble in January of 2013. “It is a great layout with a links-like feel to it. It can be testy in places if you get off the beaten path, but it is a very fair course.”
Another fan of Timacuan and the Mini-Verde greens is former world long drive champion David Mobley.
“I was so impressed with the greens,” said Mobley. “The new Mini Verde greens really force you to golf your ball. You have to put it in the right places on these greens. It’s an excellent layout, and these new greens make you play the golf course the way it is suppose to be played.”
Timacuan Golf & Country Club is a semi-private facility, open to the public but also offering outstanding membership packages. For information, call 407-321-0010, ext. 2, or visit www.golftimacuan.com.
