Grand Rapids, MI) A number of illustrious headliners have been a part of the West Michigan Golf Show over the past 30 years but there’s never been a World Golf Hall of Fame member. Until now. Meg Mallon, whose stellar golf career began in Michigan with a state championship, will headline the Golf Show set for Feb. 9-11 at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids. An 18-time LPGA winner and four-time major champion, Mallon will be appearing on the Applied Imaging Stage on Friday and Saturday.
“With my Michigan ties, it’s very exciting to be part of the Show in Grand Rapids,” said Mallon who grew up in Birmingham, MI, and attended Mercy High School in Farmington Hills. “As home to the Meijer LPGA Classic, I know this region is a hotbed of golfers who love the game.”
In 1983, Mallon won the Michigan Women’s Amateur and later starred at Ohio State University. Her breakout year on the LPGA Tour occurred in 1991 when she won four times including two majors-the LPGA Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open. The following year, she was selected to her first U.S. Solheim Cup team and would play on eight consecutive teams from 1992 to 2005. Mallon was honored with the captaincy of the U.S. Solheim Cup team in 2013.
Mallon would go on to win 18 LPGA championship titles with a total of four Majors. In 2000 she won the du Maurier Classic and followed in 2004 with her second U.S. Women’s Open Championship victory. Elected to the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame in 2002, Mallon this past September was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame, only the fourth Michigan golfer to be so honored.
“It’s an incredible honor for the West Michigan Golf Show to welcome Meg, truly one of the all-time greatest golfers in Michigan history,” said Carolyn Alt, Senior Show Manager. “As both a player and a Solhiem Cup Captain, she possesses such valuable insight and knowledge about the game.”
In addition to Mallon, other seminars will be given by Alison Curdt, a PGA Master Professional trained in Clinical Psychology and the 2015 LPGA Teacher of the Year; as well as Jason Guss, Jeff Caminiti, Ian Hughes, Patti Butcher and Joe Charles.
Held continuously since 1989, the West Michigan Golf Show attracts thousands of golfers to hundreds of exhibits and will feature clinics, putting contests, Trackman club fitting, junior golf instruction, swing analyzers and unbeatable golf shopping values.
Sponsored by Treetops Resort, Applied Imaging, Golf Association of Michigan, the Michigan PGA, Ferris State PGM Program, the Golf Show’s charities include Patriot Golf Day, Folds of Honor and First Tee of West Michigan.
