and Colonial Williamsburg
Williamsburg, VA, February 7, 2018 – Colonial Williamsburg Hotels, Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and KemperSports have launched the Ultimate Golden Horseshoe Getaway contest in celebration of the recent restoration of the award winning Gold Course by famed architect Rees Jones. The contest can be entered online at www.kemperclub.com and gives golfers a chance to win a trip for four to experience an incredible buddy golf experience in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The promotion, which runs through February 28, 2018, includes complimentary golf for a winner and three friends on Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s newly renovated Gold Course (two rounds), Green Course (one round), along with unlimited play on the nine-hole Spotswood Course. The winner and guests will also be treated to three nights’ accommodations for four at The Williamsburg Lodge (double occupancy), and two dinners for four people. In addition to the fantastic golf experience and great dining, the winners will receive passes to the Historic Area sites where Colonial Williamsburg recreates 18th- century life and the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, as well as an authentic hatchet throwing experience. The winners of the promotion will be selected March 1, 2018.
The highly-acclaimed Gold Course was originally designed in 1963 by renowned course architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and reopened July 1 following a complete renovation by Jones’ son, Rees Jones. Along with a complete re-grass, featuring Northbridge Bermuda in the fairways and surrounding rough and 007 Bent on the greens, all bunkers were rebuilt with “Better Billy Bunkers” to improve drainage and playability, and topped with new white sugar sand. Additional enhancements include nine new forward tees providing a more forgiving option for players along with the leveling of all tees and reconstruction of four green complexes.
Golden Horseshoe also includes the Green Course – a 1991 Rees Jones-design carved from the same rolling terrain as the Gold Course, offering a strong option for avid golfers and members with wider fairways, larger and more undulated greens, and more length on the par-72, 7,120-yard modern layout.
The venue’s golf is rounded out by the nine-hole, par-31, Spotswood Course. Built in 1949 as the original course alongside The Williamsburg Inn, the Spotswood Course received a 1964 renovation by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The course is meant to be played twice from each set of tees for an 18-hole routing. Named after colonial Governor Alexander Spotswood, the course is considered by GOLF Magazine as the “best short 9-hole course in the country.”
