Pancake to represent the Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin PGA Sections as District 6 director
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (Feb. 14, 2018) – Tony Pancake, PGA Director of Golf and Club Operations at Crooked Stick Golf Club, in Carmel, Indiana, has joined the PGA Board of Directors as District 6 Director.
The President of the Indiana PGA Section and Indiana Golf Foundation, Pancake was elected to the Board to fulfill the term of Todd Smith, PGA, in representing the Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin PGA Sections. Smith was recently named as a PGA Career Consultant for both the Indiana and Michigan PGA Sections.
In addition, South Central PGA Section President Michael Henderson, of Edmond, Oklahoma, was named to the PGA’s Board of Control, which oversees the Association’s governance and ethics code standards and compliance. Henderson, the 2017 South Central PGA Golf Professional of the Year, is the Owner of The Golf Club of Edmond and Operator of Lakeside Memorial Golf Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Since 2003, Tony Pancake, PGA has helped steer Crooked Stick’s efforts on the national and international stage, as the facility played host to several championship events, highlighted by the 2005 Solheim Cup, 2007 USGA Women’s Amateur, 2009 U.S. Senior Open, and the 2012 and 2016 BMW Championship.
“I’m honored to serve the Members and Associates of District 6,” said Pancake. “I’m committed to doing the best job possible for the District and excited about what’s ahead for the PGA of America, as we grow the game and serve our Members.”
A native of Seymour, Indiana, Pancake attended the University of Alabama on a golf scholarship and earned an Accounting degree. He served for nine years as PGA Head Professional at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, which hosted the 1996 PGA Championship. Pancake then worked at Hurstborne Country Club in Louisville, before being named Head Professional at Baltimore Country Club – a perennial Top 100 private club.
Pancake has received several Section awards, highlighted by twice being named: Indiana PGA Section Golf Professional of the Year, a Horton Smith Award winner and Junior Golf Award recipient. He has also been a recipient of the Section’s Bill Strausbaugh and Merchandiser of the Year Awards. In 2014, he won the Indiana State Senior Open.
The PGA Board of Directors is composed of the Association’s President, Vice President, Secretary, Honorary President and 17 Directors. The Directors include representatives from each of the PGA’s 14 Districts, two Independent Directors and a member of the PGA Tour. New District Directors are elected by their local PGA Sections.
The Board of Control’s Michael Henderson, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, attended Stephen F. Austin State University on a golf scholarship and also serves on the Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame Board of Directors. He was named the South Central PGA Section’s Youth Player Development Leader of the Year in 2011, 2013 & 2014; and PGA Merchandiser of the Year (Public) in 2013. An accomplished player, he has competed in multiple PGA Tour events, PGA Professional Championships, and was honored as the Northern Texas PGA Player of the Year in 2005.
