Scottsdale, Ariz. (February 15, 2018) – Troon®, the leader in golf course management, development, and marketing, is pleased to announce that 11 of its affiliated facilities have been selected to host local or subregional qualifying events for Drive, Chip and Putt in the 2018-2019 qualifying season.
Conducted by the United States Golf Association (USGA), Masters Tournament and the PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a free youth golf development initiative for boys and girls, ages 7-15. Local qualifying opportunities will be held in all 50 states throughout the months of May, June, July and August. Entrants will play in girls’ and boys’ divisions in four age categories, with scoring centered around golf’s three fundamental skills (Driving, Chipping and Putting). Top performers at the local level will advance through subregional and regional qualifiers in July/August and September, respectively, at some of the nation’s most acclaimed venues and championship sites. From these qualifiers, 80 finalists – 40 boys and 40 girls – will earn an invitation to compete in the National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, April 7, the eve of the 2019 Masters Tournament.
In recent years, finalists have either come through qualifiers at Troon locations or call Troon-managed facilities their home clubs. In 2014, Raina Ports of El Conquistador Golf & Tennis in Oro Valley, Ariz., made it to the finals and placed second overall in her division. Grant Herrenbruck and Tate Herrenbruck from Salina Country Club in Salina, Kan., both made it to the finals in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, Sarah Lydic of Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club, a Troon-managed facility in Ocean View, Del., also earned one of 80 spots in the National Finals.
