Columbus, Ohio (March 21, 2018) – Work on an extensive course renovation at Columbus Country Club has been completed allowing the historic course to reopen all 18 holes on May 15th for member and guest play. Golf course architect Kevin Hargrave oversaw the renovation which focused on design concepts of famed golf course architect Donald Ross and restoring the proper scale back to the Columbus Country Club property.
The two-year golf course renovation project began in the fall of 2016. The front nine reopened on May 19, 2017 and renovation work began on the back nine in September 2017. During renovations, more than 1,500 trees were removed; opening the course’s entire ridgeline and exposing incredible sight and play lines. All bunkers were replaced and reflect the style and feel of Ross’s original work. New and repositioned tee complexes make the course more playable for the entire membership – longer for better players, and shorter for those with less length off the tee. The new Columbus Country Club stretches from 5,400 to over 7,200 yards.
“Hargrave did a masterful job of weaving expansive fairways through magnificent oaks, maples, and newly planted fescue areas throughout the entire course,” said Jay Frank, general manager, Columbus Country Club. “We’re excited to reopen and show off the renovated course to our members. We expect the course to be recognized among the best, if not the best, classic courses in Ohio. It is now aligned with our exceptional clubhouse which was totally renovated in 2015.”
In addition to the renovation work, a unique putting green was also added near the club’s halfway house. The green’s elevated location provides some of the best views of the property, allowing it to be used for club events, social gatherings and more.
Managed by Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, Columbus Country Club also boasts a nine-hole executive course along with eight tennis courts, a large swimming pool, spacious clubhouse and a diverse entertainment calendar.

The grounds of Columbus Country Club were first developed by Orlando A. Miller in 1903 as a horseman’s club with bridle paths throughout the estate. Columbus Country Club has hosted the Ohio State Amateur four times (most recently in 2004), and was the host course for the 1957 and 1987 Ohio State Mid-Amateur. The historic Donald Ross design will again host the Ohio State Amateur in 2020.
