Chicago, Illinois (March 26, 2018) – The First Tee of Greater Chicago, a 501 (c) 3 charitable foundation dedicated to teaching the golf and life skills curriculum to young people, is teaming with Exelon Corporation and KPMG to support Girls in Golf Academy, June 25 – 29, the week of the Women’s KPMG PGA Championship at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer, IL (June 26 – July 1).
Thirty girls ages 11 – 14 will be chosen to participate via an application and selection process. The week-long camp will feature an academic curriculum that includes: Golf for Life lessons, The First Tee STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Links, Giving Back to the Community and Wellness. “Exelon works within its communities to help create jobs and build strong pipelines of talent, and we are particularly committed to increasing the number of women in STEM-related occupations,” said Betsy Soehren-Jones, Chief of Staff for Exelon Corporate Operations. “Introducing girls to STEM at an early age is the key to closing the gap, and this program gives them. a tremendous and unique opportunity to learn, explore the game of golf and have the opportunity to see LPGA Tour Professionals playing the game.”.
The Girls in Golf Academy will be lead by Carol Rhoades, Illinois PGA Section Professional of the Year and a lead coach for The First Tee of Greater Chicago. “We are proud to have Carol on our team. Carol is a wonderful advocate for junior golf and an inspiration to girls becoming involved in the game for the first time. I know the girls will have an incredible experience with Carol and our entire staff,” states Lisa Quinn, Executive Director of The First Tee of Greater Chicago.
The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is a collaboration of the PGA of America, KPMG, and the LPGA Tour. It continues the tradition of the LPGA Championship. The event combines an annual major golf championship with the KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit and the KPMG Future Leaders Program – all focused on the development, advancement, and empowerment of women on and off the golf course. “KPMG is thrilled to be a part of Girls in Golf Academy. By partnering with Exelon and The First Tee, we will be teaching girls the values instilled in golf like – hard work, perseverance, discipline, triumph and fulfilling dreams,” said Rob Clary, Principal, International Tax at KPMG and Board member with The First Tee of Greater Chicago. Rob added, “We’re proud to share the Championship week with the girls participating in the academy and KPMG looks forward to seeing everyone at the Championship.”
A special week is in store and all parties wish to thank Marion Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL; Glenwoodie Golf Course in Glenwood, IL and Idlewild Country Club in Flossmoor, IL for hosting portions of the Girls in Golf Academy.
