Terp Talk radio personality, Bruce Posner was awarded the Earle Hellen Sports Media Award by the Middle Atlantic Professional Golfers’ Association (MAPGA). He received the award at Washington Golf & Country Club (WGCC) during the MAPGA 32nd Annual Hall of Fame banquet.
The award exemplifies his outstanding commitment and service to golf and sports reporting once demonstrated by Earle Hellen, a former Newport News reporter.
Posner has been working with ESPN and CBS Sports Radio since 2006.
The Baltimore, Maryland native and University of Maryland alumnus has always loved following golf, even before he started his radio career on ESPN and CBS Radio in Baltimore.
As he grew up in the ranks of Arnie’s Army, he watched legends such as Arnold ‘The King’ Palmer win with swagger.
During the banquet Posner was afforded the opportunity to celebrate his award with, former Terrapin Coach Fred Funk, who was recognized as the 2018 MAPGA Hall of Fame inductee. Funk was no stranger to Terp Talks as he was a regular guest on the show every time tournaments were hosted in Maryland.
Terp Talk has become the flagship for the University of Maryland as a radio show devoted to Maryland sports.
From the development of the radio show more shows developed which allowed Posner to cover golf as often as he wanted. This also led to Posner developing business connections with various PGA Professionals-PGA Professional such as Pat Coyner who has served as Posner’s golf expert.
He has also learned tremendously from other local PGA Professionals such as Barry Fuhrman, David Hutsell, Mark Beran, Bernie Najar, Wayne DeFrancesco and Dennis Satyshur.
But, after receiving the award he gave most the recognition to Stan Charles, a sports radio legend in Baltimore. Charles helped Posner gain access to the radio world by allowing him on his show as a guest. As a result Posner was able to build a small following for himself.
Now Posner uses his own show as a platform to benefit his local community. Posner continues to help raise awareness for programs such as Inner City Lacrosse, The Baltimore Legends Museum and Team Up for One, a group which helps children that are unable to participate in sports become a member of a team.
Posner’s personal philosophy is when you put your heart and soul into any endeavor, success usually follows.
