Joe Franz Awarded MAPGA President’s Award

STAFFORD, VA-Joe Franz, PGA, from Baltimore, Maryland was awarded the 2018 Middle Atlantic Professional Golfers’ Association (MAPGA) President’s Award during the 32nd Annual MAPGA Hall of Fame banquet at Washington Golf & Country Club, in Arlington, Virginia.

Franz was personally selected by J.P. Lunn president of MAPGA. He was recognized for the award because of his dedication to improving the game of golf, the industry, and the Association. His tireless effort, unwavering dedication and exceptional contributions to the game of golf resulted in significant benefit to the Section, its members and apprentices, and the entire golf community.

Franz has hosted many events for the MAPGA, including an annual Town Hall meeting and is a regular supporter of many Section events, playing and attending. Joe also serves his Section by serving on the Employment Committee.

He became a golf professional in 1992 and earned his PGA membership in 1996 while working as an assistant at Governors Club. From 1996 to 1997, Franz also worked as an assistant professional at Hillendale Country Club and Baltimore Country Club before finding his home at Elkridge Club.

Shortly after onboarding at Elkridge Club, Franz earned the title of Head PGA Professional and is celebrating his 20th anniversary this year.

During his career he has had many outstanding PGA Professional mentors, such as Andy Gibson, PGA, Don Keefer, PGA, David Jones, PGA and Past President of the PGA of America, Allen Wronowski, PGA.

Gibson, who taught at the Country Club of Maryland was his first teacher. He has been an avid golfer since he was 10 years old. He also met his wife Kathy Franz at the country club.

He works alongside his wife who is the Director of Women’s Golf at Elkridge Club. They have two children together, 18-year-old, Joseph Henry Franz V and 16-year-old, Maggie Franz.

Franz personal philosophy is that the member is always right. He strives to provide the best customer service experience to his members and their guests and is continually looking to improve himself, his staff and the overall golf operation at Elkridge Club.
