LAKE MARY, FL (April 3, 2018) – PGA Professional Joe Lewandowski, formerly the Head Golf Professional at Mission Inn Resort, has been named Director of Golf at Timacuan Golf & Country Club.
Lewandowski, a native of Long Island, NY, will oversee all aspects of the golf operation at the semi-private facility in Lake Mary.
“I have always enjoyed the layout at Timacuan,” said Lewandowski. “It has the reputation of being a great tournament golf course and a popular course for members and daily fee golfers. I am thrilled to be here and hope to build on that reputation.”
Lewandowski comes to Timacuan after four years as Head Golf Professional at Mission Inn in Lake County. There he oversaw member competitions and many high-profile regional and national tournaments over the two highly ranked El Campeon and Las Colinas courses. He also earned a solid reputation as an instructor for both individuals and group clinics.
After graduating from Brown University where he played lacrosse, Lewandowski spent seven years in New York City at a large international bank in risk analysis and credit risk. In 2014 he moved to Florida and entered the PGA PGM program as an apprentice head golf professional at Mission Inn, eventually earning his PGA Class A Professional status in 2016.
Lewandowski, who lived in Winter Garden, has a one and a half year old son named Otis.
There are many reasons why golf’s governing bodies often choose Timacuan to host their tournaments. Timacuan has received rave reviews from the many PGA and LPGA Tour players who have competed in the $10,000 Timacuan Scramble during PGA Merchandise Show week each January.
“I really enjoyed the golf course,” said Graeme McDowell, the Irishman who won the U.S. Open in 2010. “It is a great layout with a links-like feel to it. It can be testy in places if you get off the beaten path, but it is a very fair course. And it is in great condition.”
Said LPGA Tour star Brittany Lincicome, “This is a terrific golf course. It is a good test of golf. You have to be able to move the ball around to be successful here.”
Timacuan, designed by renowned architect Ron Garl, features two distinctly different nines. The front nine has a Scottish feel, with open fairways, mounding, sprawling bunkers and large greens. The back nine has more of a Carolinas Low Country feel featuring stately oaks, tall pines, and several water hazards that demand precision off the tee and to the green.
