Export, Penn. (May 31, 2018) – Westmoreland Country Club in Export, Penn. is in the midst of a bunker renovation project. Westmoreland Country Club Golf Course Superintendent Bill Stowers is overseeing the project while Heritage Links golf course construction company is the contractor. The project launched in mid-April and is expected to be completed by mid-June.
Westmoreland Country Club’s bunkers were last updated in 2007. As part of the current renovation, 41 greenside bunkers are being regraded, reshaped and rebuilt incorporating a technically advanced drainage and liner system featuring Capillary Concrete. This new generation lining method increases the speed at which water flows through the sand and the lining; minimizing contamination, reducing maintenance, and producing superior consistency. The new bunkers are expected to last for well over a decade.
“With the new bunkers we expect the time we spend repairing and maintaining bunkers will dramatically drop,” said Stowers. “This bunker renovation is a part of our continuous effort to deliver excellent playing conditions to Westmoreland members and guests.”
The bunker renovation project will be completed in time for the club’s inaugural Pro-Member Stag Tournament on June 13th. The sold-out event will feature a host of professionals, including six-time PGA TOUR winner Rocco Mediate, who will be conducting a pre-tournament clinic and then playing in the tournament. Spectators are invited and welcome to walk along with Mediate during the tournament.
