ORLANDO, Fla. (June 6, 2018) – Accomplished PGA teaching professional Joe Charles from the highly acclaimed Treetops Resort in northern Michigan is scheduled to appear as a guest instructor on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive on Sunday, June 10.
The popular daily morning show airs from 10 a.m. to noon ET.
Charles, Director of Instruction for the Treetops Golf Academy in Gaylord, MI-a 90-minute drive northeast of Traverse City-is one of the inaugural coaches in Golf Channel Academy (GCA), a dedicated network of teaching facilities. Select GCA coaches are being invited to appear on the network’s news and instruction shows, including PGA Tour Champions Learning Center and School of Golf; Charles is making his first appearance.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to appear on Morning Drive,” said Charles, a 2005 graduate of Ferris State University’s Professional Golf Management program, where he became the first student in the program’s storied history to obtain his full Class “A” PGA membership prior to graduation. “It’s been a great experience to be a part of the Golf Channel Academy network of coaches. The quality and diversity of the team is something I’m very proud to be associated with, and I look forward to sharing some of my favorite lessons and tips with the viewers at home.”
After graduating from Ferris, Charles worked alongside his mentor, Dick Stewart, at Kalamazoo Country Club and also spent his winter months as an Assistant Professional at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla. He then worked as a Golf Professional at Greg Norman’s Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla., before moving into his first Head Professional role at The Dye Preserve Golf Club in Jupiter. There, Charles was instrumental in bringing several USGA qualifying events to The Dye Preserve, including the 2007 Mid-Am Qualifier, 2008 U.S. Open Local Qualifier and 2009 U.S. Senior Open Qualifier.
Charles also spent several years as the Director of Instruction for GOLFTEC in Atlanta, Ga., before joining Treetops, one of the top golf resorts in the Midwest. Treetops features five golf courses, including the Masterpiece from world-renowned architect Robert Trent Jones
and the Premier from celebrated architect Tom Fazio, his only design in Michigan. There’s also the 9-hole Threetops par-3 course, which was home to ESPN’s Par 3 Shootout for many years.
A Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Instructor and Eyeline Golf 4PE Certified Instructor, Charles’ expertise lies in video swing analysis, bio-mechanical motion analysis and club fitting.
