LAKE MARY, FL (June 22, 2018) – Longtime Timacuan Golf & Country Club employee Eric Cannon has been promoted to the position of Director of Golf at the popular semi-private golf club. Cannon, a New York native, will oversee all aspects of the golf operation at the semi-private facility in Lake Mary.
Cannon joined the Timacuan staff in 2011 after earning an Associates Degree in Complex Management at Golf Academy of America. Prior to that he earned marketing and management degrees from SUNY New Paltz in New York.
After working in various aspects of the golf operation at Timacuan, Cannon moved into the club’s accounting department a few years ago overseeing collectables and payables. On two occasions during that time he was asked to direct the golf staff during major golf tournaments when the club was without a Director of Golf. He efforts were so well received that he has finally been offered the D.O.G. position.
“I am very excited by the potential and prospects of this course and its membership,” said Cannon. “After working here at Timacuan for the past seven years I have a good idea of what it takes to regain and maintain the status as one of the best golf clubs in Florida. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and begin the work.”
There are many reasons why golf’s governing bodies often choose Timacuan to host their tournaments. Timacuan has received rave reviews from the many PGA and LPGA Tour players who have competed in the $10,000 Timacuan Scramble during PGA Merchandise Show week each January.
“I really enjoyed the golf course,” said Graeme McDowell, the Irishman who won the U.S. Open in 2010. “It is a great layout with a links-like feel to it. It can be testy in places if you get off the beaten path, but it is a very fair course. And it is in great condition.”
Said LPGA Tour star Brittany Lincicome, “This is a terrific golf course. It is a good test of golf. You have to be able to move the ball around to be successful here.”
Timacuan, designed by renowned architect Ron Garl, features two distinctly different nines. The front nine has a Scottish feel, with open fairways, mounding, sprawling bunkers and large greens. The back nine has more of a Carolinas Low Country feel featuring stately oaks, tall pines, and several water hazards that demand precision off the tee and to the green.
