Abby Marting & Ali Schrock Win Scholarships
Abby Marting and Ali Schrock are the first winners of the Maureen J. Garrity Scholarship for Women, established to support the education of women who participate in the Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships. Each of the winners received a scholarship in the amount of $1500.
Abby, 18, from Dubuque, IA, will attend Drake University in the fall, while Ali, 18, from Pontiac, IL, will attend Illinois State University.
Maureen spent 34 years at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and was particularly impactful in supporting student-led programs on social determinants of health, leadership and community service.
She was a long-time supporter and volunteer with Pepsi Little People’s, winning the 2017 Little People’s Volunteer of the Year Award. She passed away December 23, 2018.
The MJG Scholarship is ongoing and will be available to young women who will be graduating in 2020 or 2021 and who will be participating in the 2020 Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships. To apply, each applicant must write a personal essay describing herself, her career aspirations, and any community service she has performed, and must submit a current high school transcript.
ABOUT PEPSI LITTLE PEOPLE’S
The Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships is an international junior golf competition for boys and girls aged 3 through 18. The 47th annual tournament will be held June 22-24, 2020, at two golf courses in Quincy, Illinois USA. Competition is held in seven age divisions for boys and seven age divisions for girls.
