How Bluegolf Revolutionized the Golfer Experience for One Devoted PGA Section
Dan Frankel, the current Director of Junior Golf for the Met PGA, interned for the association over the summers during his college years, eventually transitioning to a full-time role. His colleague, Steve Guasco, followed a similar path, joining as an intern in 2010 and now serving as Championships Director. Over the years, both have witnessed the evolution of tournament management at the Met PGA.
Guasco remembers his first introduction to BlueGolf during his intern days, and since then, the Met PGA’s relationship with BlueGolf has remained stronger than ever. A day in the life of an intern today still reflects that consistently blue presence.
“They use BlueGolf pretty much the whole day,” said Guasco. “From the check-in sheet to cell phone numbers of the parents, emails of the parents, all the way down to the pairing sheet, alpha, you name it.”
With interns playing such a critical part in the Met PGA’s events, there’s no room for steep learning curves. “It’s amazing that I’ve never had an experience where our interns were not able to figure out how to use BlueGolf correctly,” said Frankel.
“And I think it’s because of how seamless the product is made and how user friendly it is, so that behind the scenes we’re able to put out our best product, and our interns are able to do it, which makes our lives so much easier.”
Having once been an intern, Frankel reflected on the early days before BlueGolf, when scores were calculated manually, and registration was done through “snail mail.”
“To see how things have progressed from doing that… and now having a program like BlueGolf where everything is done for us,” said Frankel, “we’re able to take the time we need to worry about the in-person experiences that our membership and junior golfers and veterans and PGA professionals are having. And that’s what separates the Met PGA from every other section. And we couldn’t do it without BlueGolf.”
