Two-Time Olympian Ancer Strengthens Torque GC’s Role as the Standard-Bearer for Latin American Golf
MEXICO CITY – LIV Golf today announced that League veteran and Mexican star Abraham Ancer will depart Fireballs GC to join the all-Latin American Torque GC ahead of the 2026 season. The move comes as LIV Golf’s 13 teams continue to finalize their respective rosters during the league’s free agency and transfer window.
A top-12 player in the League in 2024 and 2025, Ancer joins Torque GC following four consistent seasons with the Fireballs GC, highlighted by his performance at LIV Golf Hong Kong in 2024, where he emerged from a dramatic three-man playoff against Cameron Smith of Ripper GC and Paul Casey of Crushers GC to secure his first LIV Golf individual title.
“I would like to thank Fireballs GC Players, Caddies and Staff for the last four years and for helping me grow as a person and a player,” Ancer said. “I will be forever grateful for that stage of my career and I wish them all nothing but the best in 2026 and beyond. Joining Torque GC is an exciting next step, both personally and professionally. Competing as part of an all-Latin team alongside close friends, whom I admire on and off the golf course adds a layer of connection and purpose that I can’t wait to be a part of.”
Ancer’s move to Torque GC for the 2026 LIV Golf season is a statement of identity as much as ambition. A Mexico native and one of the most accomplished players ever produced by the country, Ancer joins Torque as a hometown hero whose career has been built on discipline, resilience, and an unshakable belief that Latin American golf belongs on the sport’s biggest stages. His arrival reinforces Torque GC’s role as the defining force of the region’s new era: a team bound by culture and fearless pride, carrying the weight of an entire continent into global competition.
“Abraham is a proven winner and a fierce competitor, and we’re proud to welcome him to Torque GC,” said Torque GC Team Captain Joaquín Niemann. “As a fully Latin American team, we play with shared pride, duty, and purpose, and Abraham embodies that. His addition makes us stronger and deepens the bond that drives everything we do.”
Ancer was a steadfast presence for the Fireballs GC in 2025, ranking among the League’s most consistent fairway finders. He posted three top-10 finishes – with eight finishes inside the points – while contributing to six team podiums for Fireballs GC, including three consecutive team wins early in the season.
“Abraham has been a cornerstone of Fireballs GC from day one,” said Fireballs GC Team Captain Sergio Garcia. “He has been integral in building up the culture of this team, setting the standard for how we prepare, how we compete, and how we represent our club. His impact here goes far beyond the scorecard, and that kind of influence stays with you long after someone moves on.”
A key contributor to LIV Golf since joining the League in 2022, Ancer finished his debut season in the top 20 of the individual standings, and opened 2023 with a wire-to-wire victory at the PIF Saudi International. His 2023 season featured a podium finish at LIV Golf Bedminster and two team victories with Fireballs GC. Ancer finished the calendar year with a gold medal win at the Pan American Games, besting new teammate Sebastian Muñoz by one stroke.
Since turning professional in 2013, Ancer’s resume has been defined by perseverance, precision and performance on the world’s biggest stages. After capturing his first professional win at the 2015 Nova Scotia Open, Ancer posted top-tier results, highlighted by a dominant victory at the 2018 Australian Open, a standout performance for Mexico at the World Cup of Golf, and an exceptional debut for the International Team at the 2019 Presidents Cup, where he tied for the lead as most productive performer with 3.5 points. He memorably broke through at the 2020 Masters, where he entered Sunday in the final group after sharing the 36-hole lead.
His momentum continued into 2021, where he finished runner-up at the Wells Fargo Championship, earned a top-10 at the PGA Championship, competed for Mexico at the Tokyo Olympics, and claimed one of the biggest wins of his career at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
In 2024, Ancer played some of the most complete golf of his career. In addition to his win at LIV Golf Hong Kong, he delivered three additional top-10 finishes and placed 12th in the season-long standings. He also helped lead Fireballs GC to victory at LIV Golf Andalucia, and represented Mexico at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking his second Olympic appearance.
Ancer will open his 2026 season for Torque GC at LIV Golf Riyadh presented by ROSHN Group February 4-7. The team now boasts four players who finished the 2025 season in the top 12, including Chilean team captain Joaquin Niemann (2nd), Colombia’s Muñoz (4th), and Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz (8th) who has played alongside Ancer at the Olympics, and with the Fireballs. With Ancer’s signing, Torque GC adds a player defined by discipline, global pedigree, and a deep connection to Latin American golf, aligning with the team’s ethos and competitive ambitions for 2026.
