Defending American Century Championship winner debuted a one-of-one pair of the Beta at Edgewood Tahoe
LOS ANGELES – Alma Mater, the footwear company using innovation to create a profound impact in the golf community, is giving fans a look inside the process that put a piece of Wisconsin on the feet of defending champion and Alma Mater investor Joe Pavelski at this year’s American Century Championship.
Pavelski returned to Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course earlier this month to defend his title, and he did it in a pair of custom golf shoes that are inspired by his Wisconsin roots. The unique design is the latest example of the customization that has quietly become a differentiator for Alma Mater – with its private club customers, special groups, partners, and on occasion even the athlete partners who helped build the brand.
Alma Mater’s ability to customize the Beta creates a version that’s exclusive to their customers and can’t be bought anywhere else. It’s a deliberate departure from the industry norm, where the same shoe on the shelf at a big-box retailer is often the same one in the pro shop at a private club. Alma Mater built this capability specifically to give its club partners a shoe of their own.
That same process, applied at the individual level, is how the Pavelski build came together. The Alma Mater design team worked directly with Pavelski to understand the story he wanted his shoes to tell, then built it into Beta Lite’s existing performance architecture so nothing about the personalization compromised the shoe’s feel or function.
The result was a pair of white Beta Lites with navy laces and a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, Pavelski’s favorite cocktail, prominently featured on the heel of the sole.
Alma Mater offers this kind of customization to private clubs, groups and events looking to build a Beta that’s exclusively theirs, and on a limited basis to the brand’s roster of athlete investors.
