ANYA ALVAREZ JOINS THE G2 ACADEMY IN SUPPORT OF NEW GIRLS ONLY GOLF PROGRAM
Bluffton, SC: The G2 Academy is pleased to announce a partnership with Anya Alvarez as a Friend of G2. Alvarez joins G2 to support the first all-girls junior golf boarding academy’s mission of creating a female-centric environment for elite junior golfers to train while teaching empowerment and leadership off the course.
Alvarez is excited to have the opportunity to help female junior golfers pursue their dreams of collegiate and professional golf. “As a young girl, I was the only girl that played golf at my course, and even had to had to play on the boys’ golf team when I was in middle school. Had G2 been around when I was younger, I would have begged my parents to attend so I could be around other girls who shared the same passion as I did,” states alvarez, “I’m excited to be part of the Friends of G2 Family and help promote their message around giving girls tools to excel on the golf course, and become leaders off it.”
Anya Alvarez was a four-year letter-winner, and an honorable mention in the Pac-10 during her collegiate golf career at the University of Washington. Upon graduation she qualified for the U.S. Open on her first attempt, making that her debut professional tournament, where she made the cut. She went on to play two years on the Symetra Tour, followed up with one season on the LPGA. When she left the tour, she began writing for espnW and the Guardian about women’s golf and developed a passion to help promote gender equality through golf. She currently hosts a podcast with the LPGA Women’s Network called Talk Birdie To Me which touches on issues regarding equality in women’s sports, and founded a creative agency Major League Girls, which focuses on empowering girls on and off the field through sports.
Through the partnership, Alvarez will play an active role in mentoring The G2 Academy students and helping deserving young women receive scholarships to the academy through the Girls Golf Charitable Foundation (501c3).
“I’m thrilled to have Anya joining the Friends of G2 team,” states Ray Travaglione, G2 Founder and CEO. “She has incredible enthusiasm and a great energy that I believe will have a meaningful impact on The G2 Academy students,” he adds.
