APGA’s inaugural awards were presented to Dana, David and Leah Pump (APGA Foundation Humanitarian Award), Johnson (APGA Foundation Career Achievement Award) and Bethune (APGA Foundation Service Award) at 2026 APGA Juneteenth Classic at Chester Washington GC
LOS ANGELES, California – The APGA Foundation introduced a new tradition of honoring those faithful to its cause during the 2026 APGA Juneteenth Classic Awards ceremony in presenting the Pump family (twins Dana and David Pump and Leah Pump) with the APGA Foundation Humanitarian Award, retired APGA Tour champion and APGA Hall of Famer Vincent Johnson with the APGA Foundation Career Achievement Award, and APGA Foundation Board member Jenny Bethune with the APGA Foundation Service Award.
The Pump family, Johnson and Bethune are Southern California residents and are long-term supporters of the APGA Tour. Each plies their service within greater Los Angeles’ youth sports industry and continues to inspire, influence and impact diverse youth populations in the region by providing and cultivating inclusive opportunities in golf and youth sports.
Ken Bentley, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA), presented the inaugural APGA Juneteenth Classic Awards at Chester Washington Golf Course in Los Angeles while celebrating the first-time recipients for their dedication to the mission of the APGA, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring an inclusive future through the game of golf, and their commitment and activity in continuing to grow the sport to the underserved.
“It is with a tremendous amount of gratitude and appreciation that we celebrate the Pump family, Vincent and Jenny in receiving the first iteration of these awards which tie into our philanthropic endeavors with the APGA Juneteenth Classic,” Bentley said. “Collectively, they champion a cause which continues to build upon a lasting legacy of making the sport more representative of the youth which the APGA Foundation serves than ever before. It is important to shine a spotlight on all of the invaluable work that is being done in our greater Los Angeles community to promote and encourage inclusivity in golf participation.”
APGA Foundation Humanitarian Award – the Pump Family (Dana, David and Leah Pump)
In recognition of their extraordinary commitment to expanding opportunity and transforming lives through sport, philanthropy, and education, the Pump family is honored with the APGA Foundation Humanitarian Award.
Twins Dana and David Pump are the founding owners of Double Pump, serving much of Southern California’s youth basketball community at the grassroots level, and Leah Pump is the founder of the LadyLike Foundation, headquartered in South Los Angeles.
As founders of Double Pump, Dana and David have spent more than 35 years helping student-athletes earn exposure, scholarships, and pathways to collegiate and professional success. Through their leadership, more than 20,000 student-athletes have participated in Double Pump programs, with over 1,000 earning Division I scholarships and dozens advancing to the NBA.
Beyond basketball, the Pump family has made a lasting impact through their unwavering commitment to empowering underserved communities. Through the LadyLike Foundation and its longstanding partnership with the APGA Foundation, it has championed access to education, mentorship, youth development, and golf, helping create meaningful opportunities for the next generation on and off the course.
APGA Foundation Career Achievement Award – Vincent Johnson
In recognition of his longevity in the golf industry as a professional golfer and an executive, his dedication and creativity in growing the game within the public sector, and his sustained excellence in affiliation with the APGA Tour, Johnson is bestowed with the APGA Foundation Career Achievement Award.
An APGA Hall of Famer, Johnson is a Portland, Oregon native and was a four-year starter and team captain at Oregon State, where he won the 2007 PGA Works Collegiate Championship. Johnson became the first recipient of the annual Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption in 2009 towards the PGA TOUR’s Genesis Invitational, currently hosted by Tiger Woods at Riviera Country Club. Johnson won the 2010 Long Beach Open and, soon after joining the APGA Tour in its infancy, he was named the APGA Tour Player of the Year in 2011, when he won two tournaments capped by a victory at the season’s final event at Chester Washington GC.
Johnson transitioned into an organizational role within the public golf industry after his pro golf career. Since 2025, he has served as Golf Director for Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, home of the nation’s largest municipal golf system. In March 2026, Johnson played a role in the public re-opening of Maggie Hathaway Golf Course after it was renovated by Gil Hanse. The par-3 course in South Los Angeles provides the most affordable green fee among county Parks and Recreation courses, and will soon have a new clubhouse equipped to support community gatherings and youth programming.
Johnson’s first executive role came as the City of Portland’s Assistant Golf Director, in 2016, with a charge to advance ‘grow the game’ initiatives for its Parks and Recreation department. In 2018, he was promoted to its Director of Golf. There, he enhanced public awareness of the sport through inclusive introductory golf programs. Additionally, he led the EAGLE Caddie Program, which had 12 program participants earn full tuition and housing college scholarships through the Evans Scholars Foundation.
APGA Foundation Service Award – Jenny Bethune
In recognition of her extraordinary dedication to the APGA Foundation’s mission and the communities she serves, Bethune is the recipient of the APGA Foundation Service Award.
Bethune is a lifelong advocate for youth development and community service. In retirement, after serving more than 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff with Los Angeles County, she dedicated herself to mentoring the next generation through the game of golf.
Bethune currently serves as Junior Golf Chair for Tee Divas & Tee Dudes Golf Club, volunteers with First Tee – Los Angeles, and is the Site Director for the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf program at Inland Golf Academy. As an APGA Foundation Board member, she has played a vital role in expanding access to the game and creating educational opportunities for aspiring young golfers.
Affectionately known as “Golf Auntie,” Bethune’s unwavering commitment to mentorship, leadership, and service has helped countless young people earn scholarships, pursue higher education, and discover the life-changing opportunities golf can provide.
The 2026 APGA Juneteenth Classic at Chester Washington GC was won by Washington D.C. native Marcus Byrd, the reigning Jeff Dailey APGA Tour Player of the Year and a member of the 2026 PGA TOUR Americas circuit. Chester Washington GC has historically served diverse communities throughout Southern California and remains an important hub for junior golf and community programming.The APGA Tour’s presence in Los Angeles highlights the continuing importance of public golf courses in providing affordable access to the sport.
